It was only a matter of time before someone weighed in on the question of Mayor Guiliani as a "Catholic" candidate for the GOP presidential nomination. 

The editors of the National Catholic Register have just gone on record saying "no" to Rudy.

The Republican nomination of Guiliani, in their view, would spell the end of GOP inroads into the Catholic vote. 

No doubt it would take away one of the arguments that the GOP has used to attract Catholic, and other religious conservative, voters.
